Castrate-Resistant Prostate Cancer Cells Respond to Oestrogen, Study Finds

Professor Gail Risbridger discusses the potential of oestrogen to treat castrate-resistant prostate cancer cells. Monash University researchers recently identified that activation of oestrogen receptor-ß can result in cell death. In the study, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Professor Risbridger and colleagues demonstrated the beneficial effects of an oestrogen receptor agonist in treating both benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer (2010;107:3123–8).
