Innovative Exercise Improves Obesity, Diabetes

Clinical Endocrinology News - Monday, February 08, 2010

A mind-body therapeutic exercise program developed by a University of Queensland scientist shows promising results in improving obesity, diabetes and depression.

The program was developed by UQ scientist and expert in the field of mind-body therapy Dr Liu Xin, and pilot tested in a 3-month study funded by the Diabetes Australia Research Trust.

At the end of the study, the proportion of participants with clinical levels of depression decreased from 60% to 20%, while BMI and waist circumference decreased by a significant 4% and 3%, respectively.

“Without involvement of any dietary intervention and high intensity training, it was very encouraging to see such impressive results over a short period of time,” Dr Liu said.

So, why so cagey with what actually was done?
Without that sort of detail, the teaser leads only to frustration and the sense that reading it was a waste of my professional time.
