Heart Foundation Urges Fight on Obesity

Clinical Endocrinology News - Monday, February 08, 2010

The Heart Foundation has called on all levels of government to fight obesity and promote physical activity among Australians by implementing the recommendations of two recent reports on sport and health.

The reports – The Future of Australian Sport and The Preventative Health Taskforce Report – outline the importance of sport in promoting physical activity and puts forth a range of important recommendations to proactively increase physical activity, respectively.

“In line with the government’s commitment to both elite and grassroots sport, the Heart Foundation agrees that sport has an important role in promoting physical activity, but its efficacy will be significantly increased if priority is given to broadening the base of participation for all Australian communities,” said Heart Foundation National CEO, Dr Lyn Roberts.
